Indiana politicians weigh in on airstrikes US executed on Iranian nuclear sites

INDIANAPOLIS - President Donald Trump announced Saturday night that the U.S. had executed airstrikes at three Iranian nuclear sites.

In a post on social media, Trump confirmed the U.S. bombed the Fordow, Natanz and Esfahan sites. The aircraft that executed the attacks are now outside Iranian airspace, and their pilots are heading home, according to Trump.

"Congratulations to our great American Warriors," Trump said via social media. There is not another military in the World that could have done this. NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE! Thank you for your attention to this matter."

The airstrikes come as tensions between Israel and Iran escalate. On June 16, Trump indicated that he left the G7 early because of the situation developing in the Middle East.

After Trump announced U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites, Indiana's politicians took to social media to weigh in on the president's actions:

Todd Young, U.S. Senator

"Thank you to our brave service members who executed this mission. The world will be safer if Iran's nuclear capability is destroyed. I look forward to briefings in the coming days."

Marlin Stutzman, U.S. Representative

"Peace through strength means you have to be willing to prove your strength when adversaries will not accept the peaceful option.

"I support President Trump's decision and am thankful the strikes were successful. God Bless America!"

Rudy Yakym, U.S. Representative

"The right call by POTUS."

Jim Banks, U.S. Senator

"I trust President Trump!"

Mike Pence, former Vice President of the U.S. and Indiana Governor

"President Trump Made the Right Call to deploy American Forces to strike nuclear sites in Iran, and he should be commended for his decisive leadership. Iran could never be allowed to obtain a nuclear weapon. Thanks to the resolve of our Commander in Chief and the courage and professionalism of our Armed Forces, America, Israel and the Free World are safer as a result.

"Iran should now stand down and abandon any thought of retaliation against Americans or be prepared to face the consequences. Tonight President (Trump) proved again that the United States of America is the Leader of the Free World and America Stands with Israel. Thank You Mr. President and God Bless Our Troops."
