Indianapolis child molester gets 25 years after allegedly confessing to crime

INDIANAPOLIS - An Indianapolis man was sentenced to 25 years in prison after being found guilty of molesting a 9-year-old girl.
On July 23, a jury found Bahati Magambo guilty of two counts of child molestation, a Level 1 felony. On Sept. 2, a judge sentenced Magambo to 25 years in prison.
According to court documents, Magambo's crimes first came to light in March 2025 when a 9-year-old girl opened up to a friend's grandmother about the sexual assault.
The child would later tell police that Magambo held her down and covered her mouth to prevent her from screaming. He also reportedly threatened to harm the child if she ever told anyone about the molestation.
According to court documents, Magambo allegedly confessed to molesting the child when questioned by Indianapolis police. Investigators collected DNA evidence from Magambo along with swabbing and collecting the sheets where the molestation occurred.
"Our Sex Crimes Unit continually demonstrates that they are among the very best in the country, especially when it comes to prosecuting the most despicable defendants," said Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears. "When a child is victimized, they deserve our best fighting for them and that's what we have here in Marion County."
