JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. - An Indianapolis man is accused of hitting speeds of 140 miles per hour while driving under the influence on Interstate 69.
Cohen Frederick, 20, is charged with resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, a Level 6 felony, along with multiple misdemeanor charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and reckless driving.
According to court documents, a Johnson County sheriff's deputy caught Frederick's Kia Stinger driving 140 mph on a stretch of I-69 near Smith Valley Road late Wednesday night. Frederick allegedly spotted the fully marked patrol vehicle after speeding past- the deputy noted how the Stinger braked and switched lanes to slow down.
After the deputy caught up to the Kia Stinger, Frederick is accused of accelerating briefly and speeding away from the police vehicle. Frederick then pulled over onto the shoulder of I-69 North near County Line Road.
Deputies stated that Frederick was behind the wheel of the Kia and appeared to have glossy eyes and the smell of alcohol on his breath. A breathalyzer later revealed Frederick to have an alleged blood alcohol content of .108%, above the .08% legal limit.
According to court documents, a passenger who had also been drinking was located in the passenger seat of the Kia. Both Frederick and his passenger are below the legal drinking age of 21.
