INDIANPAOLIS -- Officials with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department have made an arrest in relation to a reported fatal stabbing in early May on the west side of Indianapolis.
According to previous reports, officers from IMPD's northwest district were dispatched to the 2900 block of Waterfront Parkway on the morning of May 8 on a report of a stabbing.
When officers arrived, they found a man, later identified as 31-year-old Brian McCoy, who had been stabbed. McCoy was taken to a local hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead.
During an investigation into the stabbing, officials with IMPD learned that McCoy's vehicle had reportedly been stolen. Detectives were able to identify the suspect in the incident as Joshua Bland, as well as locate and recover McCoy's stolen vehicle.
On Thursday, IMPD, along with the department's SWAT team, located Bland on the northwest side of Indianapolis. Bland was taken into custody and was charged with:
- One count of murder
- One count of robbery resulting in serious bodily injury, a Level 2 felony
- One count of auto theft, a Level 6 felony
Bland's initial hearing is scheduled for June 10 in Marion County, according to court documents.
