INDIANAPOLIS - A pair of nonstop flights debut this month at Indianapolis International Airport.
Starting Tuesday (Aug. 5), Southwest Airlines will operate a twice daily, year-round, flight from Indianapolis to Chicago Midway International Airport.
The route will give travelers another option bound for the Windy City.
"The Midway route gives Hoosier travelers more regional access, and more flexibility when flying into Chicago," said Mario Rodriguez, executive director of the Indianapolis Airport Authority. "This route is also going to serve both business and leisure travel with more convenience, access and connectivity across the country and beyond."
The route joins other nonstop Southwest flights from Indy to Atlanta, Austin, Nashville, Baltimore, Cancun, Dallas, Denver, Panama City, Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Las Vegas, Kansas City, Orlando, Miami, Phoenix, Fort Myers, San Diego, Sarasota and Tampa.
Another nonstop flight resumes in just a few days. Starting on Aug. 11, Delta Airlines will offer a twice-weekly flight from Indianapolis to Raleigh-Durham International Airport. The route ran from January 2010 through April 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic brought it to a halt.
Indianapolis Airport Authority officials said the flight is important for the business community and worked diligently to bring it back.
"Eli Lilly maintains a significant presence there and is growing in the area," said Marsha Wurster, senior director of commercial enterprise. "That's in addition to the NCAA committing to Cary, North Carolina, for future championship games, and there is a growing tech industry connecting both the Raleigh-Durham area and Central Indiana."
Delta also offers nonstop flights to from Indy to Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Cancun, Detroit, New York, New York, Los Angeles, Orlando, Minneapolis, Raleigh and Salt Lake City.
Frontier has run a seasonal nonstop flight to Raleigh-Durham since 2022.
