Indy man sentenced to 16 years in federal prison for selling fentanyl

INDIANAPOLIS -- An Indy man has been sentenced to federal prison after pleading guilty to distributing fentanyl.




According to the United States Attorney's Office Southern District of Indiana, 33-year-old Stacy Griffin received a 16-year sentence after pleading guilty to the distribution of 40 grams or more of fentanyl.




Griffin is alleged to have sold around 298 grams of fentanyl at least six different times between Sept. 22, 2023, and April 18, 2024. In one of these instances, court documents allege that Griffin sold fentanyl containing xylazine, which is a type of tranquilizer used by veterinarians to lower heart rates, breathing and blood pressure.




Law enforcement is especially wary of xylazine as Narcan cannot reverse its effects. The release added that Griffin was allegedly caught selling fentanyl while serving a probation and community corrections sentence for a previous domestic battery conviction, where he reportedly strangled and punched a pregnant woman.




"Griffin's decision to sell dangerous fentanyl, while serving probation, shows a blatant disregard for both the law and human life," said John E. Childress, acting United States Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana. "Fentanyl continues to devastate communities across the Southern District of Indiana, but thanks to the swift action of the DEA and our law enforcement partners, countless lives were saved by getting Griffin off the streets."
