ISP: Man arrested for shooting on I-465

INDIANAPOLIS -- Indiana State Police have arrested a man for his alleged role in a shooting that occurred on I-465 last month.

According to a news release, troopers responded on Sept. 29 to a reported shooting on I-465 near the 3.5-mile marker. ISP said preliminary information indicates an adult male victim and the suspect were inside the same vehicle.

At some point, they both got out of the car and walked along the side of I-465. It was around that time that the suspect, who ISP identified as 30-year-old Jason Twombly of Indianapolis, allegedly opened fire and struck the victim.

ISP said Twombly then fled the scene. Motorists passing by proceeded to call 911 after seeing the victim lying on the side of the road. The victim was later transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

ISP's investigation led them to a motel near 34th and Shadeland, where they believed Twombly was staying. ISP said the suspect fled on foot as ISP SWAT members approached the motel. He was taken into custody a short time later. ISP said detectives recovered a firearm that they believe was used in the shooting.

Twombly was placed under arrest and preliminarily charged with Aggravated Battery (Level 3 Felony) and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon (Level 5 Felony)
