'It's going to be fun': Caitlin Clark set to return from injury barring further setbacks
INDIANAPOLIS - Caitlin Clark will return to action for the Indiana Fever on Wednesday barring any further setbacks, according to head coach Stephanie White.
Clark is anticipated to return to the lineup after suffering a left groin injury. The All-Star has missed five games due to the ailment, with the Fever going 3-2 in her absence and winning the WNBA Commissioner's Cup championship game against the Minnesota Lynx.
During media availability after practice on Tuesday, head coach Stephanie White said that, "if there's no setbacks," she expects Clark to be available "after today." That would mean she'd be back in the lineup for Wednesday afternoon's home game against the Golden State Valkyries.
When asked how she felt about returning from injury, Clark said she is excited.
"I think it's just nice to get back out there and get into the flow of playing with my teammates again," she said Tuesday. "It's going to be fun to get back out there, hopefully. It's been hard sitting out for a few weeks, so I'm just excited to get back out there."
She also spoke on potential playing time.
"I don't know what type of minutes I'm going to get," she said. "But when I'm out there just looking to compete, play hard... bring energy. I hope to play a decent amount, maybe upper 20s. It depends on how I feel, how the game goes and what the team needs."
This marks the second time this season Clark has returned from time off due to an injury. She has missed 10 games total this year after being out five games in May due to a left quad injury.
Voted to be a WNBA All-Star Captain alongside Minnesota's Napheesa Collier, Clark is currently averaging 18 points, 5 rebounds and almost 9 assists per game in nine games played.
The WNBA All-Star Game is scheduled to take place Saturday, July 19, at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in downtown Indianapolis. The team that Clark drafted is expected to be unveiled on Tuesday night.
