Jail employee accused of trafficking drugs into Marion County Jail

INDIANAPOLIS - A corrections employee is under arrest after he was allegedly caught trafficking drugs into Marion County Jail.
Bryce Byrdsong faces preliminary charges of official misconduct, trafficking with an inmate and possession of a controlled substance.
According to the Marion County Sheriff's Department, Byrdsong has been employed as a corrections officer for one year and has had no prior disciplinary history. An intelligence unit got wind of potential trafficking inside the jail and ended up identifying the potential suspect as Byrdsong.
Sheriff's deputies confronted Byrdsong at the start of his shift on Tuesday, according to the sheriff's department. A search of his person allegedly revealed concealed narcotics. More narcotics were found in his vehicle.
"The public places immense trust in their public safety officials, and that trust is non-negotiable. Today's arrest makes that clear," said Sheriff Kerry Forestal.
Final charges in this case will be decided by the Marion County Prosecutor's Office.
