BFD personnel also found an injured child on the property's front lawn. Bargersville officials confirmed the injured child was transported from the scene to Riley Children's Hospital.
During a sweep of the building, BFD crews located two cats and a dog. Firefighters reported that the animals they found were safely removed from the building.
Per BFD, the apartment unit most heavily impacted by Tuesday's fire was occupied by a man and two children when the blaze first broke out. Three other families were evacuated from the apartment complex during the fire.
BFD investigators believe the fire was caused accidentally. Officials believe the blaze began as a grease fire on a kitchen stove.
