Kokomo woman convicted of animal crushing to return to prison after supervised release violation

INDIANAPOLIS -- A Kokomo woman who pleaded guilty to animal crushing in November 2021 is returning to prison.

According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Indiana. 24-year-old Krystal Scott was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release, after she pleaded guilty to violating conditions of her previous supervised release.

In late June, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department found Scott with 12 cats and dogs in a feces-filled U-Haul. According to previous reports, the animals were dehydrated and their bodies were reportedly in "low condition."

This comes after Scott pleaded guilty to animal crushing in November 2021. According to the release, Scott used an alias online to state that she would adopt and care for multiple dogs and cats when in reality, she tortured and killed them.

At that time, Scott was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison followed by five years of supervised release. She was released from federal prison in June 2023 and began to serve her supervised release term.

On June 20, officials with the Indianapolis Animal Care Services responded to complaints that Scott was using an alias to respond to social media ads for reuniting lost and found pets with their owners, obtaining a dog through false pretenses.

The release said that the dog that Scott obtained "was not located." Citizens reportedly told law enforcement that they found a dead dog at the homeless encampment where Scott was staying. This led to officials with the Indianapolis Animal Care Services finding the U-Haul with the 12 dogs and cats. However, no dead animals were found at that time.

Officials said that searches of Scott's cell phone and social media accounts showed that she was a member of more than 10 pet adoption groups online.

The release said that during a revocation hearing on July 29, Scott reportedly admitted to violating conditions of her initial supervised release, including "a prohibition against non-incidental contact with animals."
