INDIANAPOLIS -- A crash during practice prevented Scott McLaughlin from seeking his second consecutive Indianapolis 500 pole.
McLaughlin confirmed his team wouldn't get on the track for Sunday's Top 12 qualifying. Team Penske teammates Josef Newgarden and Will Power both failed tech inspection, preventing them from making qualifying runs.
There are three sessions of qualifying on Sunday. The first leg is Top 12, which will see the top finishers from Saturday's session battling to get into the Firestone Fast Six.
After Top 12 qualifying is done, four drivers will battle for the remaining three spots in the field of 33: Marco Andretti, Rinus Veekay, Jacob Abel and Marcus Armstrong.
Once those final spots are determined in Last Chance Qualifying, the top six drivers will battle for the pole and set the final starting order for the 109th Running of the Indianapolis 500.
