Man in custody after Hagerstown standoff

HAGERSTOWN, IN - One man is in custody after a two hour standoff involving the Wayne County Sheriff's Office, Hagerstown Police Department, and Indiana State Police.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff, on Thursday, March 20th the Wayne County Sheriff's Office in coordination with the Hagerstown Police Department attempted to serve a warrant on Joshua Curbeaux at his residence in the 16000 block of State Road 38.

Curebeaux had warrants for Neglect of a dependent, Failure to appear on charges of domestic battery in the presence of a child less than 16 years of age, battery on a public safety official, and resisting law enforcement.

When law enforcement attempted to serve the warrant, Curbeaux exited the home before retreating back inside and refusing to comply with orders to surrender. Officers made several attempts to negotiate, but Curbeaux continued to refuse to exit the home.

Indiana State Police SWAT Team and negotiators were called to assist, and after approximately two hours Curebeaux surrendered without further incident.

Wayne County Sheriff says contrary to reports circulating on social media, no hostages were involved at any time during the incident, and no injuries were reported.
