GREENFIELD, Ind. - A man was arrested after he allegedly set a family members truck on fire and doused a building in gasoline.
Lovepreet Singh Nagra, 25, was charged with Arson, a Level 4 Felony.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the area of County Road 600 West and County Road 300 North on report of a vehicle fire. As law enforcement was making their way to the scene a witness reportedly called an officer from the Hancock County Sheriff Department to report that there was a fire with an individual standing next to it.
Upon arrival, officers found a White 2025 Ram 1500 heavily engulfed in flames. Law enforcement spoke with additional individuals who claimed there was $7500 inside of the truck. Another witness stated that they saw Nagra dumping gas inside of a nearby business. The witness believed that he was going to set the building on fire.
According to court documents, crews spotted Nagra outside of a nearby residence. When speaking to the suspect, officers reported a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath.
Nagra allegedly told authorities that he set the fire because he was mad at a relative. Further, he planned to burn down the truck as well as the business. The building was soaked in gasoline, but he did not have an additional lighter after burning the truck. The damages to the truck are reported to be worth $82,000 - $84,000. Nagra did also reportedly admit to having consumed alcohol.
Officers launched an immigration inquiry into Nagra and discovered that he is not legally in the United States.
