MCPO: Monon Trail assaults suspect charged with sexually assaulting child in 2016

INDIANAPOLIS -- The man linked to two reported sexual assaults on the Monon Trail last month has been charged with allegedly sexually assaulting a child in Lawrence nearly 10 years ago.
According to a news release from the Marion County Prosecutor's Office, Larry Duerson has been charged with:
- Two counts of rape, each a Level 1 felony
- Two counts of child molesting, each a Level 1 felony.
This comes after Duerson was charged with the following in relation to the Monon Trail incidents:
- One count of attempted rape, a Level 1 felony
- One count of robbery resulting in serious bodily injury, a Level 2 felony
- Two counts of kidnapping, each a Level 3 felony
- Two counts of strangulation, each a Level 6 felony
- Two counts of battery resulting in serious bodily injury, each a Level 5 felony
- Two counts of sexual battery, each a Level 6 felony
- One count of intimidation, a Level 6 felony.
The release alleges that in February 2016, a 13-year-old child woke up to an individual, who prosecutors allege was Duerson, sexually assaulting them in their bedroom. DNA collected from the incident in 2016 reportedly matched Duerson's DNA.
"The accusations in this case are every parent's and survivor's worst nightmare," Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears said in the release. "After all these years, we are finally able to provide some answers and hope for the survivor. They courageously revisited their most traumatic experience to help us build this case, allowing us to pursue the justice they deserve."
In relation to the Monon Trail cases, Duerson's final pretrial hearing is scheduled for Oct. 28 and his jury trial is scheduled for Nov. 3.
