FRANKLIN, Ind. - A Franklin woman was arrested after her trailer home was found filled with feces and infested with roaches.
Erin Nolen, 37, was charged with neglect of a dependent.
Franklin police were dispatched to the 1100 block of Hospital Rd. on July 31 at approximately 12:30 p.m. after receiving a report of a woman yelling at her children outside.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with a woman who had called police out of concern for the children's welfare.
According to court documents, Nolen was being evicted from her trailer and was in the process of moving out when police were called. Authorities inspected the home and encountered an unbearable stench, animal feces, urine, roaches on every surface, flies, and spider webs that covered the ceiling.
Authorities found piles of trash, clutter, and debris covering the floors of every room. In the kitchen, officers observed dirty dishes and old food covering the countertops. As the officer was leaving the home, he was covered in spider webs after briefly entering the residence.
Nolen allegedly told police she spends every day begging her children to do their chores. The officer reportedly told Nolen it was not her children's responsibility to maintain the home and described the conditions as inexcusable.
The Department of Child Services took custody of the minors, placing them with a relative, while animal control removed the two dogs and four cats from the home.
The children's father is reportedly in prison.
