Happy Sunday! Most spots across central Indiana reached 90° on Saturday, marking the first time in August. Sunday will be a largely repeat day, with highs around 90° and heat indices in the mid-90s. This occurs after a mild start with morning temperatures ONLY around 70°, adding to multiple days since June 1st that have started mild.
The daytime Sunday will be dry for the most part. An area of high pressure to our east will keep the heavy rain out west away from us. While I won't rule out a very stray shower, the southerly breeze allowed in will elevate the heat and humidity on Sunday.
The work week continues the hot and humid trend with highs in the upper 80s to near 90° all week long. Daily rain chances exist with the highest chances being on Tuesday when a weak frontal boundary passes through. Severe weather is not a concern but heavy downpours are the biggest threat with any storm. Humidity levels will remain high all week long, too.
Peak heat indices will likely stay below 100° through the work week. However, by next weekend we could see triple digit heat indices again thanks to an elevated upper-level ridge and warmer air aloft. Beyond this week, the relief from the heat and humidity doesn't go away.
