Morgan Co. deputies arrest man accused of striking 2 police vehicles, drunk driving at 108 mph
MORGAN COUNTY, Ind. -- A man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly crashed into two police vehicles while driving under the influence of alcohol in Morgan County on Wednesday evening.
According to the Morgan County Sheriff's Office, deputies attempted to stop 22-year-old Nathaniel Swift of Noblesville after he was observed driving 108 mph in a 45 mph zone in the area of Henderson Ford Road and Rinker Road.
MCSO said Swift failed to stop his vehicle and a pursuit ensued. The pursuit spilled over onto the southbound lanes of I-69 until it eventually ended around mile marker 141.8 near SR 37 and Teeters Road after the suspect's vehicle encountered "mechanical problems." During the pursuit, MCSO said Swift allegedly struck two police vehicles, causing minor damage.
Following the pursuit, Swift was placed under arrest without further incident. Swift faces the following preliminary charges:
- OWI
- OWI Endangerment
- Criminal Recklessness with a motor vehicle
- Resisting law enforcement
- Leaving the scene of a property damage accident
- Criminal Mischie
The Morgan County Prosecutor's Office will make the final decision on whether or not to bring formal charges against Swift.
