New storm threat Wednesday; Dangerous heat and humidity arrive in central Indiana this weekend


The warm and humid air is here and the threat of strong to severe storms returns for Wednesday.






Warmest afternoon here in two weeks! 84° at 6pm but add the humidity and it feels like 90°. Preview of things to come.








Downpours are roaming late day and are selective. Overnight additional 2" of rain fell in Tipton county. 7-day totals have exceeded 7" in some locations of northcentral Indiana. This is the WETTEST June to-date in Indianapolis in 6 years.












Renewed storm threat Wednesday as approaching jet stream dips and splits to our west. Squall line of storms are looking more likely by afternoon. A WATCH BOX may be required Wednesday with damaging winds the primary threat.








Timing storms from 2pm through 7/8pm as a squall line forms in western Indiana and sweeps the state from west to east. Peak rainfall coverage will be nearing 40% after 2pm and before 8pm.












Rain and storm chances lower to end the work week then attention turns to the developing heat wave. A large and expansive HOT DOME is to develop overhead by early next week. Advisories will likely be needed as temps reach and exceed 90° for the first weekend of summer.




The National Weather Service is developing a HEATRISK outlook - incorporating the expected conditions and impacts. Starting Sunday, major to extreme heat risks are forecast for much of the central and eastern U.S.
