Officer-involved shooting in northeast Allen County draws over 30 emergency vehicles

ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) -- A large number of emergency vehicles responded to an intersection near train tracks in northeast Allen County for an officer-involved shooting.

At around 8:00 p.m. Friday, an officer with the Allen County Sheriff's Office noticed a suspicious-looking vehicle parked near Schwartz and Irving Roads, where it was very dark.

When the officer went to investigate, he noticed the driver had a firearm and called for backup.

The location of the report caused Indiana State Police, Fort Wayne Police and Allen County Sheriff Deputies to arrive on scene.

When the individual in the car moved in a threatening way, that's when officers from all agencies fired their weapons.

ISP Public Information Officer Sgt. Wes Rowlader confirmed with WANE 15 that the individual has been killed. A Fort Wayne Police officer sustained injuries during the exchange. ISP said the condition and cause of the officer's injuries are unknown.

A WANE 15 crew member who had arrived on scene said that at one point, an ambulance was leaving the area with lights and sirens.

The crew member also reported he saw up to 30 emergency vehicles present.

ISP will continue to investigate the officer-involved shooting. Updates will come as more information becomes available.
