INDIANAPOLIS - As has been the case in recent weeks, multiple road construction projects mean drivers will encounter some changes on area interstates, especially during overnight hours.
The Indiana Department of Transportation plans lane restrictions, lane closures and ramp closures along different stretches of I-465, I-65 and I-74 in the coming weeks.
Hanna Avenue bridge project
The Hanna Avenue bridge closed for replacement earlier this month.
Drivers can expect restrictions on I-65 southbound overnight, with the interstate reduced to one lane between I-465 and Keystone Avenue. These will run through Wednesday, July 2, from 9 p.m. through 5 a.m.
In addition to the lane restrictions, drivers will also run into intermittent stoppages of up to 20 minutes at a time as crews remove parts of the bridge over the interstate. Those stoppages are scheduled to start around midnight and will be used as needed.
The new bridge is expected to open later this year.
No I-65 closures for holiday weekend
As this marks the Fourth of July holiday weekend, INDOT does not have any planned directional closures on I-65 for drainage work.
I-65 closures will resume on July 11, INDOT said. Here's the current schedule for I-65 northbound:
- Friday, July 11 through Monday, July 14
- Friday, July 18 through Monday, July 21
- Friday, July 25 through Monday, July 28
Drivers should expect the closures to last from 9 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday. They'll extend from the I-65/I-465 interchange to the I-65/I-70 interchange.
Multiple entrance ramps will close, including those for Keystone Avenue, Raymond Street, Morris/Prospect Street and I-70.
West Street resurfacing
INDOT is working with the city of Indianapolis for a resurfacing project on West Street between 11th Street and Morris Street in downtown Indianapolis.
The project, which will include crosswalk pavement markings, is scheduled to start on July 7.
West Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction for the duration of the work. Crews will conduct milling and paving operations overnight between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. Monday through Saturday.
The project is slated for competition in late September and will pause for certain weekend events, such as WNBA All-Star Weekend.
The project is part of an agreement to resurface local roads that accommodated traffic during work on the North Split.

Overhead sign installation
INDOT will also have some closures for I-465 near I-70 and Shadeland Avenue as crews work on overhead sign installation.
These will start around 9 p.m. on July 7 and are scheduled to last through July 18. Here's what to expect:
- Right lane of I-465 SB closed approaching I-70/Shadeland Avenue
- Right lane of exit ramp from I-465 SB to I-70 closed
- Exit ramp from I-465 SB to Shadeland Avenue closed; access to I-70 remains open

I-74 restrictions
Drivers will encounter some overnight lane closures on I-74 eastbound this week as crews remove and install overhead signs.
I-74 eastbound will close between Southeastern Avenue and I-465 from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Wednesday, July 2.
All scheduling depends on the weather and could change based on developing conditions, INDOT said.
