Open test for the Indy 500 starts Wednesday at IMS

INDIANAPOLIS - Drivers hit the track this week in preparation of the Indianapolis 500.

NTT IndyCar Series drivers will participate in open testing on Wednesday and Thursday.

Wednesday's session goes from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It will start with veterans turning laps from 10:05 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by Rookie Orientation and refresher laps from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. All cars are expected to be on the track from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Thursday's testing begins at 9:30 a.m. and runs through 5 p.m. It will start with a "high boost" session, with increased boost levels similar to Fast Friday, from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. After that, the track will be available for testing from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Testing is expected to include 12 race teams and 34 drivers.

Testing is open to the public, with the Southeast Vista grandstands and the Turn 2 Viewing Mounds open for viewing. Guests can park across 16th Street in Lot 3P and enter through Gate 3. Guests with an ADA parking placard should park in the Front Museum Lot and sit in South Terrace East.

Security will help fans cross 16th Street; concessions and merchandise will be available for purchase at the track.

If you can't make it in person, IndyCar's YouTube channel will stream the test. You'll also find live timing at IndyCar.com and the IndyCar app.

The 109th Running of the Indianapolis 500 is scheduled for Sunday, May 25.
