Orestes police officer injured while trying to break up fight involving juveniles in Lawrence


LAWRENCE, Ind. - An officer with the Orestes Police Department was injured while trying to break up a fight involving juveniles Saturday night.




According to the Lawrence Police Department, officers from numerous police agencies around central Indiana were working off-duty security at the St. Simon Festival before the fight broke out. Public police reporting systems indicate the fight started sometime before 8 p.m. in the 8100 block of Oaklandon Road.




Per LPD, the fight involved multiple juveniles. When officers tried to remove the group of individuals who had been fighting from the St. Simon Festival, one of the juveniles allegedly assaulted the OPD officer.




The OPD officer sustained a foot injury during the incident. He was transported from the area to local hospital to have his injuries treated.




LPD confirmed that the juvenile who allegedly injured the OPD officer was arrested on a preliminary charge of battery of a public safety official. The juvenile was transported to the Community Justice Campus' juvenile intake after the incident.




LPD reported that the Indiana Deaf School's police department will be handling the investigation of the incident.
