Police: Indiana woman made bombs out of Monster Energy cans, wanted to blow up a high school

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - A southern Indiana woman faces a felony charge after police say she made various homemade explosives, including bombs made with Monster Energy cans.
Ahnna I. Tipton, 19, faces a possession of a destructive device charge after being arrested Thursday in Evansville. The charge stems from alleged explosive devices police found while Tipton was at the hospital.
The Evansville Police Department says an officer transported Tipton to St. Vincent Hospital for an evaluation. During the intake process, a hospital police officer reportedly found a "suspicious item" inside Tipton's backpack.
Described as a pill bottle wrapped in duct tape, the item appeared to have a matchstick protruding from the lid and a piece of cloth attached.
Another device was soon discovered inside the backpack: an aluminum pipe with a strong chemical odor sealed at both ends by duct tape.
EPD's Bomb Squad was called to the scene, recovered the items and interviewed Tipton. The suspect reportedly admitted to making the items, which were later confirmed to be "improvised incendiary devices."
Tipton also told police that she had two more explosive devices at her home in Warrick County. After a search warrant was signed, police went to Tipton's home and indeed found two more items: explosive devices that were "concealed in modified Monster Energy drink bottles."
After being read her Miranda Rights, Tipton allegedly continued talking to police and told them she had planned to use the explosives at a high school she previously attended. She also said that she had the intent of harming others with the bombs.
Online court records show Tipton is being charged in Vanderburgh Circuit Court with a miscellaneous crime, which EPD said is possession of a destructive device. An initial hearing in her case was scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday in front of Judge Celia M. Pauli.
