FRANKLIN, Ind. - A woman suffered potentially life-threatening injuries after her own dog attacked her this week in Franklin.
Police responding to the incident shot and killed the aggressive animal.
According to the Franklin Police Department, officers received a call around 6 p.m. Wednesday about a dog attack at Franklin Place Apartments.
Upon arrival, police saw a white-and-black pit bull mix attacking its owner. The woman appeared to suffer what police described as "serious and potentially life-threatening injuries."
An officer initially fired a Taser to subdue the dog, which temporarily incapacitated the animal.
The officer then went to assess the woman's injuries. But the dog, no longer incapacitated, turned aggressively toward the officer, who opened fire. The dog was struck twice and died.
The woman was taken to an Indianapolis hospital for emergency treatment. Police didn't have an update on her condition.
Johnson County Animal Control took custody of the dog's remains. The case remains under investigation.
