Police: Woman stole ambulance while at jail


RICHMOND, Ind. - A Richmond woman was arrested after she allegedly went to the Wayne County Jail for help and stole an ambulance.




Amanda Kirkendall, 43, was arrested on the following charges:





  • Resisting Law Enforcement, Level 5 Felony




  • Theft, Level 5 Felony




  • Unauthorized Control of a Motor Vehicle, Class B Misdemeanor









The Richmond Fire Department was dispatched at approximately midnight on Thursday near the Wayne County Jail after a woman approached staff requesting transport to the hospital.




When medical crews arrived they requested assistance from officers. As police were arriving, the woman allegedly jumped into the ambulance and drove off. A pursuit ensued, and ended at the hospital.




Kirkendall was taken into custody and given a ride back to the Wayne County Jail for an extended stay.
