Rain turns scattered Sunday as blocking pattern keeps us cooler

"Closed Low" and Omega Blocking Pattern: Cooler and Rainy Period




The peak rainfall is now behind us on Sunday. As of this writing, we can expect rain to decrease in coverage heading into the afternoon. Nonetheless, it's going to be blustery and a downright yucky day. Northerly winds will also howl on Sunday and gust near 30 MPH at times. Highs will struggle to hit 50° all across the board. 50° is normal for mid-March rather than early May.

Sunday is also Star Wars Day! The weather we're dealing with is great to stay inside, eat some popcorn or your favorite food and watch Star Wars/your favorite movie. Dry hours are promised this afternoon but it will still be a cooler day with highs around 50° and wind gusts near 30 MPH at times.

More scattered rain will be around Monday but dry hours are promised. A "closed low" is one that move very slowly as they are detached from the jet stream. There is also an "omega" blocking pattern in place. It's a blocking pattern that looks like the Greek character O. It's characterized by 2 areas of Low pressure stalled on each side of a ridge of high pressure. Blocking pattern like this are hard to break. It will be the catalyst for our weather pattern this week.

We expect that blocking pattern to gradually break throughout the workweek. This will start on Tuesday with that day being the only one with no rain this workweek. As the low slowly pushes off, some very scattered/light chances exist Wednesday-Friday.
