Shooting, standoff leads to arrest on near east side




INDIANAPOLIS - An investigation is underway after a shooting led to an hours long standoff on Indy's near east side Saturday night.




According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, just after 8:30 p.m., officers responded to the 3100 block of E. Washington Street on the report of a person shot.




When officers arrived on scene, they located an adult female with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. She was transported to an area hospital in stable condition, police said.




Investigators say the alleged shooter barricaded himself inside the home and refused to come out. Eventually, the IMPD SWAT team arrived on scene.




The standoff lasted for several hours. Eventually, officers entered the home and took the suspect into custody, police said. The situation came to an end just after 12:30 a.m. Investigators said no one was injured during the standoff.




An IMPD police report listed the alleged suspect as 31-year-old Jeremie Ferguson.




No additional information was released. The incident remains under investigation.
