Shooting victim dies 2 months after attempted carjacking on Indy's east side


INDIANAPOLIS -- A person who was shot during an attempted carjacking on the city's east side in July has died.




On July 6, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were called a Shell Gas Station located in the 3800 block of East New York Street in response to a person shot run. IMPD said that officers arrived and located a male who was listed in "very critical condition" after suffering multiple gunshot wounds.




IMPD Capt. Don Weilhammer reported at the time that detectives believed the male was shot during an attempted carjacking.




IMPD confirmed on Tuesday that the victim in this shooting died from their wounds on Sunday, Sept. 7, and that a homicide investigation has been launched. The Marion County Coroner's Office will release the victim's exact manner and cause of death at a later time.




The identity of the deceased individual will be made public once notifications to the next-of-kin have been made.
