Soggy pattern underway with March-like temperatures in central Indiana

Highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s Saturday are about to be a thing of the past! Hoosiers will be wishing for numbers like this over the next two days. A blocking pattern is setting the stage and we'll begin to feel its effects big-time Sunday. Umbrellas, jackets and heat in the cars/home will be needed.

"Closed Low" and Omega Blocking Pattern: Cooler and Rainy Period

There is an area of low pressure that's sitting just southeast of Central Indiana. It will not be moving much over the next few days and that's our "fly in the ointment" from our recent warmer stretch of weather we've had. Its effects were felt Saturday with the rain and slightly cooler temperatures. It will feel even cooler on Sunday.

Expect rain coverage to increase after Midnight with peak rain coverage 70-80% through Sunday morning. Heading out early in the morning to Church or anything else? Have the umbrellas and extra cup of joe handy because it'll be chilly. Northerly winds will also howl Sunday and gust near 30 MPH at times. The rain will peak in coverage in the morning before turning more scattered in the afternoon.

Dry hours are promised later Sunday and the same can be said for Monday. The rainy hours will outweigh the dry ones thanks to this closed low. These types of lows move very slowly as they are detached from the jet stream. There is also an "omega" blocking pattern in place thanks to this closed low. It's keeping the jet stream away from us and keeping our pattern stagnant for now. This will be the story throughout next week.

Highs Sunday and Monday will be in the 50s. Many spots, especially Sunday, may struggle to even reach that number. However, we expect that blocking pattern to gradually break throughout the workweek. This will start on Tuesday with that day being the only one with no rain this workweek. As the low slowly pushes off, some very scattered/light chances exist Wednesday-Friday.

By next weekend, things will look better. Highs will get back into the 70s with less rain chances in the forecast. This looks to potentially be the start of a slightly warmer pattern as mid-May has decent chances of above normal temperatures. Until then, stay warm and stay dry!
