Heat waves extend to eight days
Saturday was another hot and humid day across central Indiana. So much so that the high temperature in Indianapolis hit 90°. It marked the eighth day of the heat wave and the longest in the month of June in 31 years. Plus, it's Indy's longest heat wave in 13 years. The dates of June 21st-28th have also been the hottest in 151 years.
Depending on the cloud cover, the heat wave could extend into a ninth day but the chances are even lower than yesterday. High temperatures today in the mid-to-upper 80s, heat indices in the lower 90s. Clouds for the most part will fill our skies late morning and this afternoon. Should any breaks from the clouds occur, 90° is not out of the question.
Heavy rain and flooding occurred in our far southwest central Indiana counties Sunday morning. Portions of Clay, Greene and Owen Counties are under a Flood Advisory until 11:00 AM. 1.5-2.0"+ rain has occurred in those areas this morning.
Rain is in the cards in a widely scattered fashion Sunday afternoon, just like how the last few days have been. Heavy downpours are the biggest threat. Not everyone will see rain but the lawns will be grateful if your hometown sees rain.
Monday will be the final day of this humid stretch ahead of a cold front. Most of the day should be rain-free until the evening. While a few pop-up showers in the afternoon are possible, the main line will be Monday evening after 7-8 PM ahead of a cold front passage.
Following the cold front, humidity levels will drop and it will feel much more comfortable in terms of humidity. This will be the story for a few days Tuesday-Thursday with seasonal to mild temperatures in the mid-to-upper 80s. The northwest flow will be brief as more moisture looks to move back in closer to July 4th on Friday. It's possible a few stray showers will come from this but those are small chances. Anticipate a warmer and slightly muggier July 4th.
