Student allegedly raped on Jennings County special needs school bus, 1 charged

JENNINGS COUNTY, Ind. - A minor has been charged with rape after allegedly sexually assaulting a young boy on a special needs school bus earlier this month.
The reported attack occurred on Wednesday, April 16, and the North Vernon Police Department launched an investigation on Thursday, April 17.
A spokesperson for the victim's family said:
"The family is devastated and shocked by the news and calls upon law-enforcement and the school to further investigate. So not only can they find out how this horrible series of assaults could possibly happen, but help raise awareness to prevent another innocent child from being victimized."
FOX59/CBS4 sources say the student accused of committing the sexual assault was riding the special needs school bus because he had behavioral issues.
The North Vernon Police Department reported that the minor is being held in a juvenile detention center. He has reportedly been charged with one count of rape.
This is an active investigation. This article will be updated as more information becomes available.
