PERU, Ind. -- The man awaiting trial for allegedly shooting an Elwood police officer has been accused of stabbing a prison guard.
Law enforcement officials confirmed with FOX59/CBS4 that Carl Roy Webb Boards II reportedly stabbed a guard Thursday evening at Miami Correctional Facility south of Peru.
Officials confirmed with FOX59/CBS4 that the guard was flown to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment.
According to previous reports, Boards, an Anderson man, is facing felony murder and resisting arrest after he reportedly shot 24-year-old Elwood police officer Noah Shahnavaz during a July 2022 traffic stop.
After the fatal shooting, which occurred in Madison County, officials claim that Boards fled police and was found later that morning in Fishers.
Earlier this month, Boards' legal team withdrew its insanity defense after a judge ruled him competent for trial. Boards faces the death penalty in this case and his trial is scheduled for January 2026.
Officials said that the Indiana Department of Correction will be conducting the investigation surrounding the alleged stabbing.
This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
