Teenager dead after being struck by vehicle in Elwood

ELWOOD, Ind. - An investigation is underway after a 16-year-old from Tipton was struck and killed by a vehicle in Elwood just before midnight Saturday.




The incident happened at 9th and Main Streets. The driver of the vehicle involved, a Ram pickup truck, did not stop at the scene but was followed by a witness and later apprehended in Windfall. He has been identified as 77-year-old Michael A. Carnes of Frankfort, Indiana.




The victim of the crash was taken to St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in Elwood where he died from his injuries.




The investigation into the incident is still ongoing and toxicology results for Carnes are pending.
