'This thing was wide ranging': Man injured in shooting on northeast side; multiple shell casings fou
INDIANAPOLIS - A man ended up in the hospital following an early morning shooting on the northeast side.
Indianapolis Metropolitan police officers were dispatched around 2:10 a.m. to an apartment in the 4100 block of Edgemere Court where they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.
Police didn't disclose the extent of the man's injuries, saying only that he was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in stable condition.
IMPD Capt. John Arvin said multiple people called to report gunshots in the area.
"Some said they could hear gunfire. One person reported they heard a car leave the area quickly, so there may be an automobile involved but no description was given," Arvin said.
Investigators found indications that multiple weapons were been used.
"Officers immediately located multiple shell casings that appear to be of different calibers. So that tells us not necessarily more than one shooter, but probably... definitely more than one gun involved," Arvin said.
Arvin said bullet holes were found in an apartment across the street as well as a car.
"So that tells us this thing was wide ranging," he said. "You can see it is from all the way here on the corner all the way down over my shoulder and multiple shell casings."
Aggravated assault detectives arrived at the scene to talk to witnesses and track down any doorbell camera footage they can find.
The case remains under investigation.
