The Heritage of London Trust acquired 4 Plaistow Grove in Bromley, where David Bowie lived from ages 8 to 20 between 1955 and 1967. The modest southeast London home will be restored to its early 1960s appearance and open to visitors in late 2027. Geoffrey Marsh, who co-curated the acclaimed David Bowie Is exhibition, will oversee restoration using a never-before-seen archive. "It was in this small house, particularly in his tiny bedroom, that Bowie evolved from an ordinary suburban schoolboy to the beginnings of an extraordinary international stardom," Marsh said. The Jones Day Foundation will contribute 500,000 toward restoration costs, with the site planning on offering creative workshops for young people focusing on arts and communication skills. The announcement was made on what would have been Bowie's 79th birthday, January 8, and before the 10th anniversary of his death on January 10, 2016.
