Tommy DeCarlo, the beloved lead singer of iconic rock band Boston, has passed away at the age of 60. His death was confirmed on Monday, March 9th, 2026 by his wife Annie and his children Talia and Tommy Jr. in an emotional Facebook post shared with fans and friends around the world.
"It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our Dad," the family wrote, adding that DeCarlo fought his illness "with incredible strength and courage right up until the very end."
DeCarlo's health battle began last September when he suffered a brain bleed that required emergency surgery. During the craniotomy, doctors discovered two melanoma masses on his brain as well as an additional spot on his lungs. He amazed those around him by recovering from that initial surgery and beginning treatment, but suffered a second brain bleed that landed him in the hospital from November 27th through December 27th.
Just days into the new year, his family offered an encouraging update, sharing that DeCarlo had returned home and was making remarkable progress through physical therapy. Fueled by visits from loved ones and an overwhelming outpouring of support from Boston fans worldwide, the fighter in him never quit.
Sadly, the road ahead proved too difficult to overcome.
To help cover the mounting costs of his medical treatments, DeCarlo's family launched a GoFundMe campaign that raised over $56,000 - a testament to how deeply he was loved by the rock community and the countless fans whose lives his voice had touched.
His family has asked that their privacy be respected during this incredibly painful time as they grieve and lean on one another for support.
