Streams Of David Bowie's "Heroes" Surge Nearly 500% After 'Stranger Things' Finale
David Bowie's "Heroes" experienced a massive streaming increase following its use in the Stranger Things finale that aired December 31. Luminate data shows the 1977 track jumped almost 500 percent on streaming platforms after appearing during the show's end credits. The song typically averages 94,000 daily streams over recent months but spiked to 342,000 on January 1, 456,000 on January 2, and 470,000 on January 3. Actor Joe Keery, who plays Steve Harrington on the hit show, recommended using Bowie's original version. "It was actually Joe Keery who suggested that we do the Bowie version," Ross Duffer told Netflix's Tudum. "Once Joe said that, we immediately knew that was the right song to end the show on because it is, in some ways, an anthem for Stranger Things." Prince's "Purple Rain," which was also featured prominently in the finale, saw a 243 percent streaming increase, with 577 percent growth among Gen Z listeners globally.
