Three Dog Night Co-Founder Chuck Negron Dies At 83

Chuck Negron, founding member and lead vocalist of Three Dog Night, died Monday at his Studio City home at age 83, surrounded by family. Negron sang lead on the band's biggest hits including "Joy To The World," "One," and "Old Fashioned Love Song." The trio, formed in 1967 with Danny Hutton and Cory Wells, scored 21 top 40 hits despite criticism for not writing original material. The group disbanded in the 1980s partly due to Negron's drug struggles, including heroin addiction he later overcame. After decades of estrangement, Negron and Hutton recently reconciled. Negron had battled heart failure and chronic COPD for years. He leaves behind wife Ami, five children, and nine grandchildren.
