INDIANAPOLIS - A train derailed on the near east side of Indianapolis Sunday night.

In a post on X, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department confirmed that its officers responded to "an incident involving a derailed train near Southeastern Avenue and South Sherman Drive." Public police reporting systems indicate police and fire personnel were first dispatched to the scene around 6:30 p.m.

A FOX59/CBS4 crew at the scene captured photos of the derailed train. The photos seem to show that a few of the train's cars fell off an overpass bridge during the derailment.

IMPD reported on X that, as of 7:01 p.m., the train derailment is not believed to have any hazmat impacts.

Police indicated that Southeastern Avenue is currently closed between Sherman Drive and Rural Street. IMPD is encouraging motorists to avoid the area for the next few hours, as crash cleanup and investigation will impact traffic.

Emergency personnel have reported that nobody was injured during the train derailment.

As of this article's publication, no additional information on the derailment had been made available.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
