Vice President J.D. Vance to return to Indianapolis to continue redistricting conversation

INDIANAPOLIS -- Vice President J.D. Vance is returning to Indianapolis.




Vance is expected to visit with Indiana Senate Republicans to continue the state's redistricting conversation, officials with the Indiana Senate Democrats, and an Indiana House lawmaker, confirmed with FOX59/CBS4 on Wednesday.




This comes after Vance met with Indiana Gov. Mike Braun and other Indiana officials in a closed-door meeting in early August. At the time, previous reports indicated that the group "discussed a number of issues," including redistricting.




Later that month, around 50 Indiana state Republicans traveled to Washington D.C. to continue the conversation surrounding redistricting. According to previous reports, Vance made a case at that time to lawmakers for Indiana to redistrict congressional maps mid-decade.




Federal officials have expressed interest in redistricting the state of Indiana, aimed at removing the state's two Democratic congressional seats in the U.S. House of Representatives. Federal officials previously said that they believe this would help give Republicans an easier path to a majority in the U.S. House of Representatives.




Indiana Senate Republicans have reportedly met behind closed doors to continue the redistricting conversation, according to previous reports.




Indiana Democrats have been vocal in their opposition to the redistricting efforts, with some calling the efforts "unethical" and a "blatant attempt to cheat Hoosiers out of fair representation."
