MARION COUNTY, Ind. -- A warrant has been issued for a deputy with the Marion County Sheriff's Office accused of shoplifting from a Walmart on Indy's far east side multiple times.
According to court documents obtained by FOX59/CBS4, MCSO Deputy Timothy Beavo has been preliminarily charged with official misconduct and theft.
The investigation into Beavo began on March 30 when officers were called to a Walmart located at 10617 East Washington Street in response to a reported theft involving a Marion County Sheriff's deputy.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Beavo had allegedly skipped scanning items and passed "all points of sale without paying." Store employees advised officers that Beavo was reportedly clad in his full MCSO uniform.
After reviewing Beavo's transaction at the self-checkout on March 30, officers found that the deputy allegedly skipped paying for fish oil pills. An off-duty officer then approached Beavo and asked to speak with him about the unpaid merchandise, which was worth $14.54. Court documents stated that Beavo was permitted to leave and no charges were filed at that time due to the total.
In another incident, Beavo is accused of failing to scan and pay for a package of Great Value light bulbs. The package costed $8.97. He was again confronted by an off-duty officer about the unpaid items. Beavo was again allowed to leave and entered his MCSO van, court documents said.
While investigating this incident, officers learned that Beavo had allegedly shoplifted items from the Walmart self-checkout on eight separate occasions dating back to Feb. 13. In three of these incidents, Beavo was allegedly seen wearing his deputy uniform and utilized the MCSO van on every single occasion.
Court documents detail other unpaid items like Coffee Mate creamer and Great Value thick cut bacon.
Police proceeded to conduct an interview with Beavo on April 2 after deciding to pursue criminal charges. Court documents show that Beavo went on to state that he may have forgotten to scan some items. He blamed this on the register, saying it did not indicate anything was wrong.
After he was pressed about the other incidents and the multiple camera angles showing him appearing to fail to pay for several items, Beavo allegedly admitted to shoplifting several items.
Online court records indicate an arrest warrant for Beavo was issued out of Marion Superior Court 34. He faces three counts of Official Misconduct (Level 6 Felony) and six counts of Theft (Class A Misdemeanor).
