Watch for lane and ramp closures on I-65, I-465

INDIANAPOLIS - Drivers should watch for several changes on I-65 and I-465 this week.




Crews will be out during the week and on weekends for everything from placing permanent pavement markings to hanging overhead signs and, in some cases, changing the entire traffic pattern.




It all means travelers could run into lane restrictions or ramp closures, especially during the overnight hours.

I-65 southbound closure

Starting around 9 p.m. on Friday, the Indiana Department of Transportation will close the two left lanes of southbound I-65 between 38th Street/Kessler Blvd. (exit 119) and 21st Street (exit 115) for concrete patching work.




On Monday, June 23, one southbound lane will reopen. The other lane will remain closed until 6 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25.




This closure was originally planned for last weekend before INDOT decided to postpone it. INDOT said additional lane closures along this stretch are forthcoming.

465 closures

INDOT also plans weekend changes along I-465 on Indy's east side.




This involves overnight ramp and lane closures that run from 9 p.m. on Friday, June 20, through 6 a.m. on Sunday, June 22.




INDOT said the closures are for the placement of permanent pavement markings.




Here's what's affected:

• Two right lanes closed on I-465 NB between I-70 and Pendleton Pike (mile marker 43.6 to mile marker 42.5)





• Two left lanes closed on I-70 EB ramp to I-465 NB





• Ramp from Shadeland Avenue to I-70 EB/I-465 NB closed

Overhead signage work will close another portion of I-465.




Drivers will encounter these changes on the south side and northeast side:




Tuesday, June 17 (9 p.m. to 5 a.m.):

• Ramp from southbound Emerson Avenue to I-465 WB closed

Friday, June 20 (9 p.m. to 5 a.m.)

• Right lane of I-465 SB closed between Pendleton Pike and I-70 (mile marker 42.5 to mile marker 43.7)

Clear Path changes

A major traffic switch will take place this weekend in the Clear Path 465 corridor. This will include lane and ramp closures on I-465.

Friday, June 20 (9 p.m. to 6 a.m.)

• Left lane closed on westbound I-465 from I-465/I-69 interchange to White River

Friday, June 20 at 9 p.m. to Monday, June 23 at 6 a.m.

• Keystone Avenue ramps to eastbound I-465 closed





• Eastbound I-465 ramp to Allisonville Road closed





• Eastbound I-465 ramp to northbound I-69 closed





• Eastbound I-465 ramp to southbound Binford Boulevard closed





• Eastbound I-465 reduced to one lane from White River to I-69

Saturday, June 21 (9 p.m. to 6 a.m.)

• Northbound Binford Boulevard to northbound I-69 closed at 75^th Street





• Northbound I-465 ramp to northbound I-69 left lane closed





• Single lane open on northbound I-69 from I-465/I-69 interchange to 82nd Street

Once the new traffic pattern is in place, drivers on eastbound I-465 will have to choose between continuing east on I-465 or exiting to northbound I-69 and Binford Boulevard much earlier than before.




INDOT said the decision point will be at White River. The changes will allow crews to work in the median of I-465 and construct new lanes and ramps along eastbound I-465.

For all planned closures, INDOT said the timing and schedule may be adjusted based on weather conditions or other unanticipated circumstances.




The agency reminded drivers to slow down in construction zones, consider alternate routes and allow for extra travel time during overnight hours.
