ASHLAND COUNTY, Ohio - An Indiana died after a small plane crashed in Ohio on Monday night.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 7:40 p.m. Monday near State Road 89 and Township Road 902 in Ohio's Ashland County, which is located in the north-central part of the state.
An Express 2000 FT piloted by 72-year-old Gary Wolfelt crashed into the woods, police said. The Polk Jackson Perry Fire District confirmed he was the only person on the single-engine plane.
Wolfelt is from West Lafayette, according to investigators. FAA records showed he is the registered owner of an Express 2000 FT.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
Responding agencies included the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Ashland County Sheriff's Office, Polk Jackson Perry Fire District, Ashland County Coroner's Office, National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration.
