INDIANAPOLIS - An Indianapolis woman has been sentenced to 113 years after she shot and killed three people in June 2023.
Kara Hinds was convicted on Aug. 21 of two counts of Murder and one count of Reckless Homicide.
In the early morning of June 25, 2023, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan police Department responded after hearing gunshots in a large crowd on Broad Ripple Avenue.
When police arrived at the scene, they found multiple people fatally shot.
IMPD detectives utilized security footage from nearby businesses, with the cooperation of residents, police were able to identify Hinds as the suspect.
Further information indicated that an altercation earlier in the night was the reason behind the shooting.
A firearm was found inside Hinds' apartment and forensic testing linked the gun to the bullet casings found at the crime scene and the bullets in the victims.
"The defendant made a clear and conscious decision not only to bring her gun with her that night but to use it in the middle of a crowd, leaving three bodies in the street and endangering countless others," said Prosecutor Mears. "That willingness to commit an act of gun violence has resulted in 113 years behind bars."
