Woman killed in head-on collision in Grant County




CONVERSE, IN - A woman is dead after being involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle in Grant County.




According to Grant county Sheriff's Office, on Wednesday, October 1st at 4:14 pm the Grant County 911 Emergency Central Dispatch received reports about a crash involving a 2014 BMW and a 2023 Chevrolet on State Road 18 near State Road 13 in front of Oak Hill High School.




Upon arrival, Sheriff Deputies' determined that the two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision, with one driver still entrapped in her vehicle. The other vehicle caught fire and the driver was pulled out of the vehicle by bystanders at the scene.




The driver of the burning vehicle was taken to Fort Wayne Hospital via medical helicopter with serious injuries.




The entrapped driver was extracted from the vehicle by first responders and was taken to Marion Health where she died. The deceased was a 45-year-old woman from Marion, Indiana.




Investigators say that the BMW was heading west on State Road 18 and crossed the centerline causing the head on collision with the Chevrolet. Witnesses reported that the BMW was driving reckless and very erratic prior to the crash.




The two drivers were the only occupants in the vehicles.
