SPEEDWAY, Ind. -- The Month of May has arrived--and Speedway is the place to be.
We're exploring what makes the town so special, and it goes beyond the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Lindy Thackston and Amber Hardwick started Friday's journey with a stop at Charlie Brown's, an iconic spot for pancakes and good conversation.
Up next, they talked to Town Manager Grant Kleinhenz, who discusses May excitement and some of the changes he's seen since taking the position in 2021.
For decades, Charlie Brown's has served up pancakes and burgers to racing fans.
And while the famous spot boasts plenty of Indianapolis 500-related memorabilia, a new display honors heroes who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
Racing is at the beating heart of the town, with racing teams and motorsports companies setting up shop on Main Street.
The Dallara Experience Hub is training future drivers with a race car simulator that's as close to the real thing as it gets.
While Speedway has always been at the center of the Indianapolis 500, it's undergone a tremendous transformation in recent years to become its own destination.
Lindy and Amber talked to Town Council President Nick Sturgeon about the evolution of downtown.
The Speedway 500 Regiment performs at the race and 500 Festival Parade every year.
We talked to director Amy Mohl to learn about the band's special connection with the race and what it takes to get ready for the spotlight.
The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum has been around for years, but if you've visited in the past, you haven't seen anything yet!
The museum reopened last month after several months of renovations. Lindy and Amber explored some of the new additions.
"Porch parties" are synonymous with the Month of May in Speedway, giving neighbors a chance to put their racing spirit on display.
But it's even more meaningful for American Legion Post 500, which is just a stone's throw from the track.
