'Zero tolerance': Harassment complaint leads to cancellation of Edinburgh's Homecoming football game
EDINBURGH, Ind. -- Edinburgh schools abruptly canceled its Homecoming football game and related activities Friday night.
James M. Halik, interim superintendent for Edinburgh Community School Corp., confirmed to FOX59/CBS4 on Saturday that the announcement was made in response to a harassment complaint that was filed. Although Halik did not share any additional details on the nature of the complaint, school administrators felt it was necessary to report the situation to Edinburgh Police Chief Doyne Little.
"The school received a Formal Harassment complaint. We take those seriously... zero tolerance. We reported the situation to the Edinburgh Chief of Police," Halik said in a statement. "We are assigning the situation to a non-biased Compliance Officer on Monday to begin our internal investigation. There are consequences for harassment and it cannot be tolerated."
Despite plans for Friday night's Homecoming football game against Milan, Edinburgh Middle/High School posted on its Facebook account that all activities were cancelled hours before kickoff "due to unforeseen circumstances."
"Due to unforeseen circumstances, tonight's Homecoming Football game and all related Homecoming activities, are canceled," the post read earlier on Friday.
As of this article's publication, no additional details were made available regarding the harassment incident.
