Las Vegas Sands Ends Digital Gaming Project: Up To 400 Jobs Will Be Lost

Las Vegas Sands Corp. has announced the shutdown of its digital gaming project, Sands Digital Services, a move that will result in the loss of 300 to 400 jobs, including about 150 positions in Las Vegas. The decision, made after company executives determined the project was not a strategic fit, halts plans to offer live gambling via streamed dealers in legalized internet gambling markets.

President and COO Patrick Dumont explained in a letter to employees that while investments in the project were made with an entrepreneurial mindset, leadership ultimately determined the venture no longer aligned with the company's core long-term goals. The company will now focus its efforts on its operations in Macao and Singapore, where it manages major properties such as the Venetian Macao and Marina Bay Sands.

Sands entered the digital gaming space after selling The Venetian and Palazzo in Las Vegas and acquiring assets from Qbet in 2021. The digital initiative aimed to stream live dealer wagering to states where online casino gaming is legal, including New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

Impacted Las Vegas employees may apply for other positions within the company, though many available roles require different skill sets. Sands continues to invest heavily in Macao and Singapore, with ongoing expansion projects and commitments under revised licensing agreements.

Dumont emphasized the company's dedication to its business partners, host communities, and shareholders, stating that Sands remains committed to its market-leading positions in Macao and Singapore, and will continue to explore new opportunities that align with its long-term objectives.
