Mark Wahlberg Vows to Keep Pushing for Summerlin Studios Despite Nevada Tax Credit Setbacks

Actor and Las Vegas resident Mark Wahlberg remains committed to the vision of building "Hollywood 2.0" in Summerlin, despite the Nevada Legislature's third rejection of expanded tax credits for the proposed Summerlin Studios project. Assembly Bill 5, which called for $120 million in annual transferable tax credits to support the $1.8 billion studio development, failed to secure a majority vote in the state Senate during a recent special session.

Wahlberg expressed disappointment at the latest setback but emphasized that the effort is far from over, saying, "It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. We're going to keep going." Since relocating to Las Vegas, Wahlberg has been a vocal advocate for growing the state's film and television industry, arguing that the project would diversify Southern Nevada's economy and reduce its dependence on tourism.

He pointed to Nevada's pool of talented residents and the potential for new industry growth, stating, "You're not giving this money away, you're incentivizing the people to come here and spend lots of money." The bill would have required $1.8 billion in capital investment by 2039 and $4.5 billion in direct production spending over 15 years, with the program set to expire in 2044. Wahlberg also highlighted the potential for the studio to create 10,000 new jobs at a single site in Southern Nevada.

Despite repeated legislative defeats, Wahlberg insists the project is still alive and that proponents will continue to push for its approval in future legislative sessions.
